That's 192 highly detailed, state of the art, expensive to produce, injection molded, Conte plastic figures! 24 Yankee poses and 32 poses on the Confederate side.
There has never been a Civil War playset to compare with this epic set in terms of quantity and quality of figures. The closest comparison would be the Marx Giant Blue and Gray playset which had a total of about 137 figures. And great as the Marx figures are, Conte has taken the art and science of plastic figure making to a new level. Consider the following comparisons. |

Blocking
Note the filled in space between the musket and the body on the Marx figure on the left. That kind of "blocking" has been virtually eliminated by the Conte manufacturing process. True Scale Flags
After seeing the Conte flagbearers, the little napkin sized flag carried by the Marx figure looks a little silly. Also, note the piece of metal showing above the top hand of the Conte figure. The series 2 flagbearers have this piece of metal inside the plastic flagpole to keep the flags from drooping. (I exposed this little piece of metal to show this feature.) Full Bodied Sculpting

Conte figures are full bodied...meaning they are sculpted in true three dimensionality. Most other plastic figures are done thin to save on cost in the manufacturing process. Conte figures look like they are a much larger scale than the Marx...but the real issue is not height so much as the three dimensionality. When you compensate for the thicker Conte bases, the height/scale differential is not as large as it at first appears.* |
